Language & Cultural Tips

Possessives and Family: In Italian, possessive adjectives usually require a definite article (e.g., il mio amico). However, there is a major exception: singular, close family members do NOT take the article. You say mio padre or mia madre, NOT il mio padre.

Gender: Note how the ending often changes to indicate gender (e.g., figlio for son, figlia for daughter, nonno for grandfather, nonna for grandmother).
