Shopping for Clothes in Italy: Lesson Guide

Shopping in Milan or Rome is much more fun when you can speak the language! This roleplay prepares you to talk to a shop assistant, ask for your size, and try on clothes in an Italian *negozio di abbigliamento*.

Language & Cultural Tips

In Italian, to try on clothes you use the verb "provare" ("Posso provarla?" - Can I try it on?, where 'la' refers to the feminine noun 'camicia' / shirt). The fitting rooms are called "i camerini". To ask if an outfit fits you well or looks good, you ask: "Mi sta bene?".
