Shopping at a Spanish *mercado* is an experience for the senses. In this lesson, practice speaking to a Spanish vendor, buying fresh fruit, and dealing with money and change.
In Spain, to ask how much multiple items cost, you ask "¿Cuánto cuestan?". When buying something, it's very natural to use the reflexive verb *llevarse* (to take with oneself): "Me llevo un kilo" (I'll take a kilo). Also, the phrase "Here you go" when handing over items or money is usually translated as "Aquí tiene" (literally: Here you have).
| Spanish Phrase | English Translation |
|---|---|
| ¿Cuánto cuestan? | How much are they? |
| Dos euros el kilo | Two euros a kilo |
| Me llevo un kilo | I'll take a kilo |
| ¿Desea algo más? | Anything else? |
| Es suficiente | That's enough |
| El cambio | The change |
