Ordering at a German Café: Lesson Guide

The tradition of *Kaffee und Kuchen* (coffee and cake) in the afternoon is a beloved German custom. Whether you are in Berlin, Munich, or Vienna, knowing how to confidently order your treats is essential. This roleplay game simulates a real-world scenario where you must interact with a waiter.

Language & Cultural Tips

To order politely in German, use the phrase "Ich hätte gern..." (I would like to have...). This is the subjunctive form of *haben* and is the most common way to request something at a restaurant. When the waiter asks "Was darf es sein?" (What may it be?), you are ready to place your order! To ask for the bill, use "Die Rechnung, bitte."
